Home > Case Studies > A cost-effective anti-virus system for 2GIS A cost-effective anti-virus system for 2GISEarly in 2006, 2 Gray's Inn Square were advised that their current anti-virus solution was being phased out and that an upgrade to the latest version was needed. However the new version did not support Microsft Windows 98 which was still widely used within Chambers. Chambers was faced with the prospect of an expensive and unanticpated round of system replacements and asked Chambers Technology Support whether there were other options they could consider. We recommended replacing the current anti-virus system with AVG Network Edition from Grisoft. AVG was chosen because it supported Windows 98 and was "light" on system resources. The latter ensuring that the performance of older machines would not be significantly impaired - a common problem with the major anti-virus solutions. The Network Edition of AVG provides centralised administation of the clients. This provides Chambers with the ability to ensure clients are being updated with the latest anti-virus signatures and that any issues can be identified and dealt with quickly. Chambers Technology Support completed the migration of 50 systems over the course of a 3 day period with AVG finding a number of viruses that the previous system had missed. Perry Allen, Chambers Director and Senior Clerk of 2 Gray's Inn Square said of the project:
